Job Descriptoin


- Supervise, guide, motivate and evaluate their employees-all while implementing department policies.
  • Conduct job interviews, hire staff and train new personnel.
  • Recommends and implements operating policies and procedure
  • Assists and participates in departmental studies and quality projects.
  • Determines need for equipment and supplies.
Training and Development:
  • Evaluates performance, implements corrective action on areas needing improvement or re-training.
  • Trains and supervises medical records personnel in the daily operations of the medical records department. Orients new staff to the relationship and interaction of medical records unit with other units of department.
Medical Information Management:
  • Collects, assembles, checks and files patients’ charts as required. Ensures that records are in proper order, completed, signed, and indexed.
  • Manages and ensures the viability of the electronic records system
  • Monitors the accurateness of patient records and documentation of patient visits.
  • Answers inquiries (requests, subpoenas, court orders) regarding information recorded in the medical record while ensuring that patients’ rights are always protected.
  • Establishes and maintains a procedure to ensure medical records are safely maintained within the hospital.
  • Ensures that incomplete records are addressed with the appropriate department or service provider for correction or completion.
  • Prepares and maintains statistical reports and various registries, including diseases treated, surgery performed, and use of hospital beds.
  • Cooperates with interdepartmental personnel, as well as other departments within the facility, to assure that services are properly maintained to meet the needs of the residents.

  • Work is performed largely in a regular office environment, but must move intermittently throughout the facility.


  • Bachelor's degree in health information management or equivalent
  • Comprehensive knowledge in medical ethics, medical law, statistics, medical record privacy procedures, medical coding systems, medical record administration and pathophysiology.
  • At least five years of progressively responsible relevant experience in the healthcare sector.
